On December 29th 2023, two Teleferique cabins collided leaving 25 people stranded in mid-air for hours. The incident raised concerns on the safety of this decades-old cable car system and prompted its operator to shut it down for maintenance on January 12th.

A month later, the Teleferique is still closed and we haven’t heard back from the concerned ministries regarding the investigation into the incident. In fact, the Tourism Minister issued a statement following the incident and put the blame on the Energy Ministry instead of pushing for a joint and swift investigation.

It’s still not clear when the Teleferique will open but I’d rather see it closed than have another incident like this one.
