I’m glad I came across this videos because this summer, we first year architecture students at AUB are surveying the area of Furn el Chebbek including Mar Mkhayel and Gemmayze and this video seemed to explain everything we are doing. As we understand the architecture, it’s purpose, and it’s additions and subtractions, along the way we become aware of the history of the area and of the people that once lived in the house. The residents take out old pics of their ancestors and the feeling of nostalgia that fills them leaves us very astonished about this golden age we missed. The damage the war including the bullet holes on the façades of the buildings has gained an aesthetic value in both tangible and intangible ways and we are seeking to conserve this memory and avoid its censorship (destruction) through documentation, and in this video through art and paintings.
Again, I thank you for posting this video.
