Assuming that the British company who printed the bills is to be blamed, why don’t we reprint the bills then? Why keep the typo?

and suggestions for the 100,000 Lebanese Lira bill:
let’s be realistic a little bit.
errors happens with everyone, even with the pro
reprinting everything for a single letter is not worth it.
there are more important problems in this country.
no more wasting time over this subject all over the media
but i totally agree that the design is awful!
This isn’t a flyer for a high school play where a spelling mistake can be passed. We’re talking about the countries currency here, you fucking shred all the money and you reprint again… and the second time around if they insisted to still use Microsoft Paint they should have at least gotten this guy to do it for us http://www.wired.com/underwire/2013/10/pixel-painter-ms-paint/
it should be checked by the banque du liban before being printed so its not the company’s fault its THEIR fault
Amen!
and the biggest mistake here is the design of the bill, not only the spelling mistake. i think it’s a big insult to all the Lebanese, and the Lebanese designers.
I disagree .. this is a big deal .. and it shouldn’t happen .. its not ur local minimarket .. its the central bank !
Moreover this is very reflective of the corruption we are facing … from all the very talented designers in our country this genius was hired .. i wondered how he/she got the job ,,,
These bills once released will not circulate anymore. With a limited quantity of 50,000 only, Lebanese will tend to keep them as a souvenir for the 70 years of “independence” and the historical mistake 🙂 That’s like 1,6 millions dollars off the banks and the Lebanese economy.
my point is that it’s taking too much attention all over the net and the media and it’s a f** letter on a paper.
its wrong : YES
its ugly: double YES
now time to move on! no one pays attention or moves his his ass when our mountains and beaches are destroyed not to mention all the problems we have that affects our health and environment
i really don’t care if a word is spelled wrong on my national currency because it wont affect me in real life.
oh and i think that it will have more value because of that error..imagine a special edition of the 50 000LL bill add to that a spelling mistake 🙂
Some people need to relax. The topic is fun, and could serve your social small talks and jokes. But it does not require that much hate and criticism, there are far more important things to worry about in this country. Move on guys.
How come we can’t try to solve all the issues including small ones? Aren’t small ones supposed to be the easiest to fix? Shouldn’t we if anything start with the small stuff and build our way to the larger more difficult problems? We should care, this is important.
You are absolutely right Mark. If we can’t fix small problems, how dare we speak about large ones? All we hear about is geopolitical “big picture” issues on Lebanese news and we can’t even stop people from running red lights and driving like terrorists–drunk terrorists!
I am so sick of people whining about what people post and blog about. They should start their own blogs and ignore the ones they don’t like. We have a real problem with critical thought and details in this country. Neither is taken seriously or just dismissed as “being negative” or “complaining.” People need to realize that thinking and questioning is good, no matter what the topic. Maybe if we did more critical thinning we would have less of a mess to write about.
The design is so ugly, and this is the result of nepotism in this country vs. qualifications. Who is deciding on the artist who will design the 70 years commemoration bills. There should be a competition and the best artists competing on the national bills, and everyone should be able to vote. At least that would occupy ppl with something useful (i.e. arts) instead of stupidly talking politics and non-sense.
Now that reminded me of when I was printing my wedding invitation cards 4 years ago.
The company printing them sent me what seemed to me like 66 thousand confirmation emails before proceeding. Oh and that was a wedding of merely 200 persons, not currency for 6 million citizens!!! Come on, are we giving the central bank excuses or kidding ourselves? This is pure corruption, I’m sure none of you know exactly how many people take commissions for each new bill issued, and how many others take millions under the table for making it happen legally. I happen to know.
Ashamed to be lebanese…
badach hal2ad!
u have plenty to be ashamed for! this bill is nothing in comparison
It’s a bad design, but luckily it’s not the 75! This is just a prep for the 75th all you designers out there make sure they don’t mess up the next one because it reflects badly on you!
Check out my redesign of the new 50,000 bill !

I like the redesign Serouj 🙂
Question though: Why didn’t the Central Bank propose this commemorative bill idea as a competition between graphic designers in Lebanon and let people vote for example?
I mean something that allows “everyone” to participate in some way and make it even more meaningful.
Lool,what a country ,lets start saving those old 50 000 L.L.bills 😛
