When I read the article Jamil posted, I couldn’t help but remember the old Beirut airport and how chaotic things were back then.
Quite sad to learn that we are going back to these days noting that the Airport administration is not the only one to blame here.
Thank you Simon!
great article indeed.
however, since the writer has this talent in writing about airports, I wish his next article would be about King Khaled Airport in Riyadh (since this is were Hariri got all his inspirations) about the drugs checking from asians asses, and how Lebanese and non-Lebanese travelers laptops and external hard disks are confiscated and searched each time they enter KSA.. but wait, he just can’t, he’ll be banned from their payroll list.
it’s known that cafes and restaurants in all airports are very expensive, also our problem with taxi drivers, but I have personally never seen and officer in che7ata or fanella as he describes them, the men and women of the General Security in BEIRUT airport are among the most respectful agents in the world, from their uniform to the way they treat people. but the most clear point in the article, is when the guy states he’s not pro-hariri.. really it’s very clear
I don’t know what Hariri has anything to do with the article. It’s not like he was the one running it just because his name is on it.
This is a mentality and a system/corruption issue.
And about Gulf states (specifically KSA and Kuwait), why should there be a comparison? Obviously their systems aren’t like ours. I spent an hour in Kuwait airport security because they thought I had hashish in my bag. At the same time, drug and alcohol smuggling is good business here, so of course there will be increased security on that.
Y so serious?
Ronz habibi, “it’s known that cafes and restaurants in all airports are very expensive”, are u even serious?
There are starbucks, McDo, Sbarro,Costa to name a few in most of the airports and they have the same price lists inside and outside the airport!!!
LBP 8000 for a plastic cup of tea i find it quiet expensive, don’t u think?
Few weeks ago, the airport taxi drivers asked me for $100 to drop me in Kesrwan but I called Elegance taxi and they charges me LBP 35,000.
charged*
as i said, i totally agree about the taxi issue. there has been many initiatives to change the airport taxi process (like prepaid taxi cards defined based on the destination) by the ministry of tourism but failed since no one supported them
what bothered me the most is that he stated many other invalid points without a proof just for the sake of criticism
Anyone else kinda like the old airport? *nostalgia*
