Last time a Lebanese movie caused controversy and got banned in Lebanese theaters, it turned out to be a lousy one.
Tannoura Maxi is not yet banned despite several calls to do so but apparently does not deserve all that attention because it’s not that good according to what few friends have told me while others portrayed it as being wonderful. Added to that, despite scoring 7 over 10 on IMDb (by only 49 users), the reviews are overwhelmingly bad.
Despite all that, I plan to watch it out of support for Lebanese Director Joe Bou Eid, but it would be nice to hear some reviews or comments from those who already watched it.
The “wonderful” review is definitely sarcastic.
I went and watched it last night. Its a nice not-your-typical-hollywood-movie type of film. It has its own thing and it is for sure a new thing in the lebanese industry.
Clear your mind from all the reviews you’ve read and heard and watch the movie objectively.
That’s it, watch it objectively, it’s not a masterpiece but it has some strong points in it, it is definitely special. It is certainly to watch and develop a point of view that is not based on what you hear.
By the way am I the only one who didn’t see them having sex “in” the church (as Roy says in one comment)?? Maybe I missed that scene.
yeah, its not to get TOO excited about, but its good.
and there is no sex in the church, its either a salsa at the back of the church (and most probably in his imagination) or sex in the library of the monastery (at the end of the movie)
Exactly, that’s what I thought.. And by the way the whole “crusade” that followed the movie was all pointless if you want my opinion, as a Christian.
YES, i agree (as a christian too)
I thought the scene would involve dancing with him in his priest wardrobe, or she dancing next to the alter, or something like that. I find it very disappointing (the dance scene) and the hype is useless and meaningless.
Let’s go have a coffee and discuss the movie
I think it’s time for you to meet my parents as well (kidding)..
I actually just subscribed to your blog and I liked the logo so much. A cup of coffee never killed anyone so maybe next week
i don’t know why i didn’t like the movie,
i was so close of leaving 40 min after it was started, but i wanted to see if it gets better,
it didn’t
i want to know if i am the only person who really hated it and i think it is a waste of time and money!
the problem i think is that the media portrays it as an awesome movie, gets your hopes up too high, and then even a good movie just doesnt taste as good as you expected. Same thing happened with Sekkar Banet, Bousta, and Halla2 la Weyn….
I’ve learned not to listen to anything the media says about the movies, not higher my expectations, and just go and enjoy the movie!
Hello guys ..
For me the movie was just just just a good art direction . Nothing more.
the story is cheap, its treatment is cheaper.
And as a Christian i could never tolerate the fact that the had sex in the Church.
Not even if this is Art , this is a bad community approach .
Thx for reading my 1st comment :P:)

watch if you wish, but be ready to get bored. As my friend pointed out in the movie … “the movie would have been better as a pinterest board” – at least that for a fact has no attempted storyline. It’s a “Pretty” movie, but not everyone with Instagram on their phones is a photographer!
This movie affected me a lot.. maybe it is not a traditional story and and classic treatment but its poetic sides are wonderful and i enjoyed it like i didn’t enjoy any other movie this year…
I am Proud of “TANNOURA MAXI” and I support big time such an artistic Project.
This is my humble opinion..
Support!
