I passed by ABC yesterday and noticed their security people are still using the proven useless bomb detectors. I wonder how long until they realize that fact.
Here’s an excerpt from the article above:
The British Foreign Office has told the BBC that they will now be urgently warning all governments who may have bought devices such as the ADE651 and GT200 that they are “wholly ineffective” at detecting bombs and explosives.
What I never understood is, say, that the guy did detect a bomb, what’s he going to do? Tap on the bombers window and tell him to get out? These precautions are pretty dumb.
Patrick,
Considering terrorists who put bombs in cars usually leave them with a timer to explode in a certain amount of time and are not usually suicidal (at least not in Lebanon), it does come in very handy !
He’ll stop the guy and avoid a disaster if those machines really worked.
hehe yeah but I don’t think the bomber will bow out gracefully with a smile, saying “you caught me fair and square”
these security guys are armed with flashlights after all!
From my experience here’s what they do: the machine beeped or turned or did whatever it does when it finds a bomb on my car when going into a hotel.the guy tapped on my window and asked me if I was armed . When I said no he asked me are you sure? Like he’s giving me a last chance to confess before … oppening my trunk! When I oppened it for him he saw the sun blocking thing for the car and told me that this is the cause of the beep. I could have hidden anything anywhere else in the car but this let me pass the security!
And BTW a friend I know is a son of a general so they pass those devices with a couple of AK-47s in the car and a box of grenades unnoticed!
I thing the only ones with real protection are the Beirut souks they have a couple of dogs smelling cars going into the parking but I have no idea what they’ll do when they catch something!
