Judicial authorities reject the request of course as it is a clear violation of the constitution and the privacy of citizens, but I wonder how exactly was the Ministry of Telecommunication supposed to provide them with Facebook passwords?
Unless the ministry has a master password for Facebook, or Facebook gives away passwords to governments or the police, which I highly doubt, I don’t see how it’s possible. The only feasible way to hack our passwords would be what Abir suggested, that “the government asks ISPs to block HTTPS on the sites which will force the users to access Facebook or any other site through HTTP”.
The security agencies filed a request to obtain all the circulating text messages between the Lebanese that occurred two months before the assassination of head of the intelligence branch of the Internal Security Forces(ISF) Maj. Gen. Wissam al-Hasan, who was killed on October 19 in a car bombing in the Ashrafieh district of Beirut.
The security agencies also extended their request to acquire the facebook and several internet passwords that the Lebanese use, under the pretext of the “national security.” [Link]
So those of us using https are fine?
And how long will it take for the rest of us to get access to the passwords?
Still got the alfa/mtc directory and the #plates directory!
Soon if u’ll need someone’s password u’ll just have to call someone in moudiriyeh
It’s going to feel a looot like Iran ,a loooooot
Well, ya Maya, with all due respect, it will look a looot like all Arab countries and from experience, Iran still has a wider range of manoeuvering than all arab countries together…
As for the Ma3loumet request, i am sure, since common sense is nowhere to be found in Lebanon, there will be a division on such a request despite being an obvious national crime if it happens…
That’s bull shit… as if those who assisinated the man were planning the whole thing on FB… to plan such a thing and execute it successfully, a group needs to have SMART people planning and plotting and SMART people would never communicate such things on FB or any potentially unsecure channel…
Add to this, a request for ALL passwords is ridiculous… Maybe if they request passwords for a couple of suspects? And then, whoever reads this article and is a suspect will delete all messages…
I think that the purpose really is to have access to all information online, in case they run out of people to harrass and beat then they can find quiet a few through their accounts…
