Here’s how the above highlighted section of the new Nahr El-Mot interchange should have been built and below is how it turned out.
From where I took this picture, there are 6 legitimate lanes all going into a one lane road before reaching the highway. You can get stuck there for hours if the highway is closed, it’s a freakin’ nightmare!
[High Res]
PS: Let us not forget the road bridge in the middle of the highway, probably the one and only in the world. [Link]
and the best part is, it made the traffic jam even worse (and i thought it wasnt possible! )
I agree on the mess up on the northbound release, but the southbound entry to Sin el Fil is not in the middle of the highway….. the whole highway has been moved to the left, and the ramp is now on the right…. the road on the right of the ramp is the lead-up to City mall and should not be used to go to Dora….
To add, yeah it could have been better, but tell that to the engineers that have to design these solutions with a gazillion property takeover issues.
let me name but a few,
Holiday Beach,
Golden Beach,
ABC Dbayeh and every other building on the northbound highway, as well as from Nahr el Mot to Dora (both ways)
City Mall,
The gaz station next to the ill designed bridge was taken from its owner (Gemayel, who dies shortly thereafter) by the government, but was then miraculously saved from being erased by the project.
Plus, the access from the northbound highway into sin El Fil should not exist, yet they still did the same exact mistake…again…
I think the engineers did a good job considering the limitations, but the municipality and all the rest of those involved love to throw spanners.
At last!! people speaking logically !!
By the way awesome blog, will be your daily visitor from now on 😉
This is not a highway!!!
A highway is a closed road wth multiple lanes that have defined and dedicated entries and exits.

“PS: Let us not forget the road bridge in the middle of the highway, probably the one and only in the world.” well it’s the bridge it’s the lebanese mentality… the design is genuine but the menality sucks 🙂 think of it…
Mickel, you got it wrong but Fadi, ronman and lebcan got it right. First the design of the bridges was completed in 2001 before Citymall existed. Second, the project is partially completed, awaiting to lengthen the west service rd leading to the bridge and expected to start work on it towards end of this year. Let us think and ask before we speak our mind.
If you carefully check the two pictures, the design and the built look exactly the same. The northbound Jam is caused by the narrow steel bridge down the stream from this location. Anyway Just think about the volume of the traffic this roadway is carrying on a daily basis, about 250% of its capacity, which means you need a roadway of about 12 lanes in each direction to resolve the traffic jam. Is it possible to build this. The problem is not the Nahr el mott bridges.
what can be a solution??
I bet the engineer who designed it is Egyptian!!!!!!!
