War-torn Syria’s World Cup journey came to an end today when they lost against Australia. Syria needed to win or draw to advance to the next round but Tim Cahill’s second header and 50th international goal for Australia ended Syria’s dreams. Yesterday, Mo Salha scored twice as Egypt qualified for the World Cup.

Saudi Arabia and Egypt are the only Arab countries that qualified so far.
