On August 4th 2020, one of the largest non-nuclear explosions in history pulverized the Beirut port and damaged over half the city. On that same day, Arthaus Beirut Boutique hotel, a 25-room Gemmayze property set in a restored Ottoman building, was scheduled to open. Unfortunately, its owners, Nabil and Zoe Debs, along with its guests experienced together the effects of the horrific explosion that killed innocent lives in the city.
The hotel owners were however determined to rebuild what was lost, and a year later, their efforts paid off as the hotel was featured by Elle Decor as one of the 11 hottest new international hotels of 2021.
The property is composed out of four Ottoman-era buildings adapted to contemporary vibes, with 25 charming bedrooms and suites, fairytale gardens with a shaded swimming pool, and sandstone terraces. Nabil Debs saw Arthaus as a way of honoring his family’s estate, which has been passed down to him from generation to generation. [Source]
