I’ve been tempted to try the Ancestry DNA test for quite some time now, to have more information on my heritage, and the ethnic groups and geographic regions I originate from. I’ve looked online and there are plenty of tests available but none of my friends have tried it yet so I’m looking for recommendations. Based on what I read so far, AncestryDNA is the most popular test out there so I think I’m gonna go for it.
The technology used is microarray-based autosomal DNA testing, which surveys a person’s entire genome at over 700,000 locations, all with a simple saliva sample. Additionally, the new online interface integrates state-of-the-art tools for you to utilize your DNA results for family history research.
Here are the steps as described:
– Order your complete kit with easy-to-follow instructions.
– Return a small saliva sample in the prepaid envelope.
– Your DNA will be analyzed at more than 700,000 genetic markers.
– Within 6-8 weeks, expect an email with a link to your online results.
I did one with 23&me and they are getting better in dividing our genes to the countries. They used to just clump everyone into Middle Eastern, Now they say Western Asia and recently put a country on there. Both my parents come from the same Armenian village in SW Turkey, and now in Lebanon(since the 1950s). I live in the US, so it was easier to send my DNA in (which will probably be used to weaponise viruses to kill specific people, but that’s another subject).
Also, as a person who is from the region, I’d like to know how similar or different I am from people who have lived in Lebanon for centuries. I personally look like a white dude, not middle eastern, so I had wondered where my whiteness came from, apparently Italy.

Great info to know, but I am afraid of how these companies will use/sell our DNA later. It’s quite scary.
Depends what do you mean by “White” and “Middle Eastern” both terms are ethnically highly inaccurate and pertain to the political divisions. Western Asians are “white” mediterraneans and Italians look exactly like us. So this accounts for your “Whiteness”
White, like, no one would ever think EVER I am Middle Eastern. I’m the whitest one in my family. My brother calls me a Redneck-Texan and I call him a Terrorist. C’est La Vie!
I bought Ancestry DNA last Christmas for my wife and I. It sat ont the shelf for 4 months. We finally took the test and received the results. Very informative and interesting results for the both of use. Spin viewing my DNA matches I was mad and upset. Ancestry DNA mixed up my results with someone else. I had planned on calling Ancestry for a new test but , I did not. I was born I Germany. Mothers German and my dad was from the US and was stationed in Germany in 1961. I’m 56 and DNA match should that someone was either my parent or child. I knew I had no children I didn’t know so the test was obviously wrong. Well on July 3 2018 I met my birth father. What a shock. My family kept a 56 yr secret.
I did Ancestry.com last year it was quite interesting I was not suprised by what I got, I got 46% Middle Eastern the other two was Southern Europe ( Greece and Italy ) and Causcais region
( Turkey, Armenia region etc . As for as I am aware my family has been in Lebanon for as long as I remember.
Nagib, can we send the saliva sample through LibanPost?
“Hello baddeh eb3at bze2 3ala USA” Oh my God ;D
You will need the aproval of the ministry of health to mail the dna test kit
really ? and how do we do so ?
