Even the Internet is going on strike in Lebanon

I was working from home yesterday fixing an important matter when I got disconnected from my remote connection. I called my colleague in Beirut to see if he has any internet and as soon as he opened the connection, it went off again.

Few minutes later, I realized from the news there’s no internet all over Lebanon. No DSL, no 3G no nothing. The blackout lasted 3 hours.

According to the Minister of Telecommunication Nicolas Sehnaoui, the connectivity was lost due to an upgrade in the IMEWE cable which Ogero did not notify anyone about. Had the government agreed to finance the proposed plan to have a backup line, we would have avoided going into a blackout.

It’s not normal nowadays to have an internet black-out for that long.
