An Instagrammer called Areej Khaddaj shared on his timeline pictures of a one dollar bill with its equivalent in Lebanese Lira bills from the 1980s till April 2020. Back in 1980, 1$ was worth 3.4 Liras, before it jumped to 6.6 Liras in 1984, then up to 50 in 1986 and 500 in 1988-1989. The dollar hit the 1,000 LBP mark in 1991 and went as high as 2,400 in 1992. The famous peg was set in 1994 and is still valid only in BDL’s imaginary world.
