Caricature published in the Saudi-owned Asharq al-Awsat newspaper “April Fools… the Lebanese state”
Saudi-owned daily Asharq al-Awsat angered Lebanese after it published a caricature earlier today depicting the Lebanese state as an April Fools’ joke. The cartoon was later on removed from the website without any explanation. The cartoon is disrespectful and offensive but I honestly laughed when I saw it because the joke is really on the paper and the cartoonist not on us.
Leish ba2a? Why is the joke on the cartoonist and not on us? I am Lebanese to the core, and whoever the author is, the cartoon is 100% spot on and I congratulate them on their wit. I wish I thought of it myself 🙂 We live in a failed state and the state is a joke and a big fat lie. As a matter of fact, not just on April 1st, but it’s a lie every day of the year.
I don’t understand what exactly is offensive and what exactly you’re defending Najib. We’ve got nothing to defend. It’s about time we all man up and call a spade a spade.

I am not offended because they called The Lebanese state a joke. I am offended because they used the flag first of all, so they pointed at us all and no we the people are not a joke. On another note, Saudi papers should know better why we are in this situation, and they should know better what got Lebanon to become a joke.

They are right. We simply don’t accept criticism and this is one of our main problems. If we only accept that we live in a farm and we aim to change for a better place. As long as we consider ourselves “as the beSt and the smartest in the world, things won’t get better”.
I think this is extremely ironic, coming from a Saudi citizen. At least, in our country, which he considers to be a joke, women can drive, work, and mix with men.
But on the other hand, storming the office’s office was very idiotic. The criticism was very easy to refute.
Al Alarabiya and Al Jazeera are very good at criticizing our political system. But I wish they had the bravery to criticize their governments and monarchs.
Unfortunately, they are 100% right and the truth coming out of whomever is saying it whether Saudi, Iran or anyone will still remain the truth. We have failed as a country and as citizens. We are keeping the poloticians in their place no one else. We are failing to change no one else. And yes, what was once called eastern Switzerland is a completely failed state and the one who symbolized it in this drawing is only saying what we all already know.
I just noticed that the cartoonist has used the wrong flag. The trunk is supposed to be green. What an ignorant.
