When I called WISE back in October to ask about the new internet speeds and how they will be implemented, I was told we have to wait till December. I called again yesterday to see what happened and was informed that those with WISE machines can’t be upgraded to more than 1M connection and that this will cost 50$.
So basically the government issued a decree under which the minimum speed is 1M and WISE’s highest speed is only 1MB. Therefore everyone with a WISE machine is screwed and has to pay extra to get DSL now.
I am still on my 512K connection until I figure out what to do.
I don’t think Alfa, MTC, Wise and Mobi fall under the governments decree since they are “mobile” internet providers. The decree was for ISP’s. Telecoms and mobile internet providers have a whole different system and most of the time they’re limited with the hardware. Wise hardware handles 512KB max thats normal. Local ISPs here in Kuwait kept selling newer devices everytime they could provide faster speeds because older devices couldn’t handle the speed.
For example if a provider offers 4G and you have an iPhone then you’re only gonna get 3G since the iPhone doesn’t work with 4G.
That’s what I thought at first but they didn’t tell me that. They could have easily told me 2 months back we can switch u to DSL and buy your machine since they offer the DSL service as well.
Now I have to wait 3 to 6 weeks to get a decent connection since that’s how long a DSL connection takes to be set up.
People who are using Wise are most likely using Wise because they don’t have a phone line or are using it on the go hence why they didn’t offer to swap out all their customers with DSL.
Also why should they buy back the machine? When you bought it you did so based on the fact you would get a certain speed (i’m guessing 512). The fact that the machine can’t reach 1 or 2MB isn’t their fault and was never part of the original deal, it’s the limitation of the machine which you were fine with when you purchased it.
Yes Mark, of course they do not need to buy it back. Because it is a theft. Since when a thief returns the money s/he stole?
They monopolize the industry, force their useless overpriced crap on you, then tell you shovel it in your ass.
I pay $39.95 for my unlimited 7mbps internet where I live, I thought it’s expensive. Holy shit! compare it with Lebanon, with the economic standards. Plus, Lebanon has concentrated cities, which make telecommunication infrastructure cheaper to construct than where I live.
