Qatar Airways tweeted today that it’s banning all passengers flying from Beirut to carry pagers or walkie-talkies, and that the restriction includes checked and carry-on luggages as well as cargo. Qatar’s flag carrier did not specify a timeline for these restrictions.

This measure comes after the pager and walkie-talkie explosions that rocked Lebanon during this week and resulted in tens of kills and thousands of injured, mainly Hezbollah militants, and after the circular issued by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation of the Republic of Lebanon.

The DGCA shared a circular stating that “All airlines operating at Beirut-Rafic Hariri Airport are requested to inform all passengers departing through the airport that, until further notice, it is prohibited to carry any pager or walkie-talkie device on board the aircraft, whether inside a suitcase or a handbag, as well as by air cargo.”

It would be a good idea for the DGCA to control incoming flights as well.
