A car-free day will be organized on December 1st in Gemmayze as part of the Achrafieh2020 initiative. This is the 4th pedestrian day organized by Achrafieh2020 after Achrafieh, Rmeil & Geitawi and Mar Mikhail.
These successful events have been attracting a lot of people and I hope we will be seeing more and more car-free days all over Lebanon.
See you all there!
Gemmayze street brings back a lot of memories
Is that how they write December 1st in Lebanon? Does anyone proofread these things?
I guess that’s how they pronounce it..Firrrst. 😛
Whats gemmayze all about anyways? Never been there. Dont even know how to get there. I left beirut 20 years ago, I was only 7, and so im not familiar with my old city anymore. I dont know gemmayze or monot or achrafieh. Last time I was in beirut visiting in 2010, I got lost and it was frustrating.it is sad that as a beiruti im clueless about beirut and surrounding areas. The more sad part is when im in beirut I feel like a stranger like I dont belong, and to make things more complicated, my husband is originally from tripoli and he also has no clue about beirut and where to go and what to do there. So we really look lost and puzzled when we went there for like a day. We just hung out on the corniche and watched wierd young men jumping from the rail and screaming things like “ya ali” gibberish stuff.
a car free day in gemayze ..walk, windowshop, eat at road side cafes and restaurants. that sounds like an ok day to spend on a sunday december 1 …
im not familiar with beirut areas so it will be a good chance to walk around …like a tourist hehe…although im lebanese i sometimes use a foreigners guide for help lol
