Judge Tarek Bitar resumed today his investigation into the 2020 Beirut Port explosion and charged 10 people including security, customs and military personnel, including Beirut Customs director Raymond el Khouri.
Judge Bitar had been sidelined for over two years now following lawsuits and threats from Hezbollah and its allies. Two arrest warrants against former ministers Youssef Fenianos, and Ali Hassan Khalil were dropped last year and all suspects held in custody were released.
With the new president elected and Judge Nawaf Salam designated prime minister, nothing should prevent Judge Bitar from interrogating all suspects and concluding his investigation once and for all.
