Prime Minister Nawaf Salam visited Qleyaat Airport this week, accompanied by Minister of Public Works and Transport Fayez Rasamny and local MPs. During his visit, he announced that an agreement has been reached with the engineering consultancy firm Dar Al-Handassah – Shair (DAR) to conduct a study for the reactivation of the airport.
The study will be provided pro bono, and DAR is expected to deliver an initial master plan within three months. This plan will include the design of the terminal layout, runways, parking, and other key facilities. At a later stage, DAR will also be involved in designing critical infrastructure, including the construction of runways, taxiways, airport utilities, and providing consultation services.
The Kleiat Airport project, located in northern Lebanon, aims to enhance Lebanon’s overall transportation infrastructure. It is intended to serve as a secondary airport to Beirut’s Rafic Hariri International Airport. The airport will primarily serve the northern region of Lebanon, supporting both commercial and cargo operations to improve access for tourists, business travelers, and cargo shipments to the region.
