Policemen in civilian clothes is apparently part of the latest ISF campaign to enforce traffic law and fine texting & driving offenders. I watched the below report twice and looked up on the ISF Facebook page and I still have no idea how they’re going to spot offenders and I’m not very comfortable with it to be honest.
Last time I was fined for using my phone, I wasn’t yet the officer insisted I was spotted by another policeman hiding somewhere on the road. Unless there’s proof, police shouldn’t be allowed to fine us. Moreover, taking pictures of drivers breaking the law while stuck in a hellish traffic, or deploying officers between cars on the jammed Marina Dbayyeh road won’t help reduce accidents.
Last but not least, the best way to enforce the traffic law is to be consistent and to fine EVERYONE without any exceptions but this is not happening.
Im not sure of the exact details campaign, but as i understood, they are asking ppl to take picture of other ppl using their phone and post it on social media with a specific hashtag, but the dilemma here is taking pictures with you phone is using your phone!!!!
Also im not sure about the whole thing, I usually use my phone to track traffic on google maps, am I allow to do so or not? is it illegal now?
