It is quite sad how setting stupid Guinness records gets more coverage in Lebanon than having for the first time ever a swimmer in the Olympic Games.
Lebanese swimmer Katya Bachrouche has secured a spot at the next Olympic Games in London in 2012 after setting a new record in the 400-meter freestyle event for Lebanon, a first in the country’s history. [Article]
Mabrouk for Katya and for Lebanon!
Knowing that she doesn’t live or study in Lebanon, you can read more about Katya [Here].
PS: I hope the government is financing her trip, not letting her go on her own expenses like they always do.
PS2: Chahe emailed me that the Olympics are in 2012, not 2011. It seems the Daily Star got the date wrong unless there’s some pre-Olympics qualifying round a year earlier.
You should mention that she doesn’t live and study in Lebanon (which explains why she’s good) and that she’s also hot (choose a better picture).
She’s nice, not sure about hot unless you’ve seen pictures I haven’t.
Katya
that’s like a passport photo
That one I saw but didn’t think she was hot.
She doesn’t live in Lebanon … is that a key for success ?
Choura2yak,
That’s the only way she could have gotten so far.
Remember how much Jean-Claude Rabbat suffered getting proper training and funding even though he had a remarkable talent.
I doubt she would want to be recognized as Lebanese.. and i wouldnt be surprised if she did.. the lebanese government never supports its citizens.. and it only praises them and give them attention when they globally shine.. in order to earn some credit the government does not deserve..
Was she even borne in Lebanon lol…She’s competing on the Lebanese team to make the Olympics. It works both ways. Lebanon & her.
There was pre-olympic warm up games taking place in London a couple of weeks ago, to test the facilities and support staff. perhaps that’s what she was doing…
as for Lebanon supporting its athletes…. would hope it does, when professional sportsmen have to have shitty side jobs so they can get social security and make ends meet, i doubt Olympians would get their travel covered.
Ask Maxime Chaya if the Unions or the government ever helped funding his competitions or exploits, yet they are proud of him… Ask Nisrine (or Shereen)[forgot their last names] the skier and running sisters… the former of which has to have all he international training paid for by her family and some really generous sponsors…
Yeah the Govt of Lebanon will fund useless security measures among other things to useless politicians that are under no threat what so ever, but choose to neglect the people that will truly make us proud and give our country and the people a sense of purpose…
Lebanon is a Rabbid Country.
She’s not the first to represent Lebanon at the Olympics!! There has been female swimmers at the olympics before
