The episode the Jadeed crew was filming was on the “corruption at the airport customs”!
Al Jadeed TV crew were allegedly calling through speaker on acting director of Customs Shafiq Merhi to give them an interview when Brig. Gen. Ibrahim Shamseddine gave customs members an order to beat and detain them. Al-Jadeed reported that the crew had an approval from the Finance Ministry to interview Merhi, who refused to meet them. 7adara!
The other day at the airport I was asked to pay 20$ “bartell” just to let me pass a computer parts. He sent the cleaning lady to take the money from me or he will have to take out all my stuff and search them slowly . Such a shame
First, it’s insane that such a thing can happen in broad daylight. 3ayb.
Second, this isn’t very different from the case where the police beat up the bike thief. The author claimed beating up a this isn’t outrageous, but it is since they’re both cases of “law” enforcement overstepping their boundaries. The magnitude of the crime is different, and the fact that they are reporters is shameful.
The problem is that our state has and does act with impunity. No one is scared of being held accountable. The judiciary fails to act on anything, Hizballah related or outside their “sphere of influence”.
Third, when a Lebanese brings in a car without paying customs, he’s a 7arboo2. It’s not his fault though, since only an idiot would not take advantage of saving money. The problem is that our actual laws are so outdated, that everyone is a 7arboo2. That can only be remedied if we have an effective legislature. Seeing that hasn’t been the case since 72 or earlier, can’t see that changing any time soon.
So now hizballah is the root of all problems…
I meant the exact opposite. Hizballah is irrelevant to the corruption that’s all across the country. They may be involved, but they’re definitely not the root of this problem.
We have corruption in the public and private sector, involving all the parties. I blame an inadequate judiciary and outdated laws on its proliferation.
To uphold & protect their very own corruption
