This is a picture taken back in 1958 showing American units on the Antelias shore which is almost where the Golden beach is now. I had no clue the Americans landed that far from Beirut during the 1958 invasion.

They landed there because their Admiral was of Armenian Lebanese ancestry and he wanted to pray at the The Armenian Church. 😀
Actually, it was an action by Eisenhower in order to suppress a putsch that the SSNP was attempting to mount. It succeeded in stopping civil conflict without a shot being fired.
I have heard stories about the landing, which I find hard to believe, but enjoy the related lore. Lebanese immigrants to the US who because US citizens had, insofar as the military services go, a habit of being more likely to sign up in the Marine Corps than the other services. The fables go that the troop landing was more than just peaceful, but more like a parade, and that there were a few onlookers who found relatives of theirs’ stepping off of those ships.
This is likely to have been made possible by the fact that they probably looked through the ranks for Marines that could speak Arabic, and temporarily reassigned them to that expeditionary force.
