I’ve come to realize that the place causing most of the traffic on the maritime road facing City Mall lately is a new open air night club in town, called Pier 7.[Chahe’s post]
I don’t want to judge it before going there but is it a smart idea to open an open-air place in an industrial area and facing the Karantina garbage mountain? Can you imagine the smells there? How about the inexisting parking spaces in that area that Chahe mentioned as well?
It is always refreshing to see new places opening up, but I wish people thought a bit further before rushing and opening new places just because that’s the trend and “of course its gonna work”.
I am not saying the place is bad, just that this is a very bold move to open there, so the expectations will be very high from people and any ‘smelly’ night might cost the place dearly.
Gino went to the opening night and wrote a review for those interested in reading it [Review]. No mention of smells though, maybe he had a cold.
I’m with you on a lot of points Najib, but other than the smell of the sea (sometimes horrible), there won’t be any garbage smells. at pier 7 they installed Ozone generating fans to kill any smell that might pop up i heard from a company that was in on the installation.
a lot of work has been done over the years to “deflate” the dora garbage dump and rid it from the mounting levels of gas that accumulates when you mix S*&t up… the long term plan was supposedly to build a park on top… not sure how far in the future that will be.
furthermore, Skybar, Biel and that whole area is built on the old Normandy Garbage dump which got an upgrade in terms of landfill and now boasts most of old Beirut’s old building lying underneath… depressing that we enjoy to party on our garbage, both organic, solid, and Human… we even made one club look like a tomb in an area where cow’s were slaughtered and some humans tooo… morbid really when you think of it
even monot is on the old green line (khat tamess) i guess this how the Lebanese deal with their problems, bury them and have a party on top of them, perhaps the liters of spilled alcohol and vomit by the party-goers will wash them away…
If there were smells, Gino sure would’ve mentioned it. Still tho, knowing that it’s so close to these places..would definitely turn me off. But from the looks of it, they had a full house opening night!
