Several billboards appeared in Beirut today, mainly in Beirut’s southern suburbs, in support of Russian President Vladimir Putin ahead of the Russian Presidential elections set to held on March 17th. Some of them promoted the Russian elections while others included quotes praising Putin.

It’s not clear who’s behind this campaign, but Putin is quite “popular”, if I may say so, among Pro-Syrian Pro-Iranian political parties in Lebanon, for all the wrong reasons of course. Nevertheless, it’s not uncommon for Lebanese parties to support publicly foreign leaders, but to promote a presidential candidate of a foreign country through billboards is unheard of up until now. I wonder if that’s even legal, but that ship has sailed long time ago.

In all cases, whether it’s legal or not, it’s quite pathetic for sure.
