The Lebanese Transparency Association are sharing a video showing a new garbage mountain emerging in Saida. Just when we thought they got rid of the 30+ years old mountain garbage in Saida, the company in charge of recycling garbage and putting an end to the garbage crisis off the coast of Saida is apparently not doing its job properly.
The video is showing a pinkish area flooded with garbage right next to the garbage mountain. Saida has a beautiful coast, it’s a shame that this is happening again. I looked up on Google Maps the location and you can spot a small garbage mountain forming next to a huge black area (I’m assuming these are the pinkish garbage-infested waters).
Yes I pass by there a lot and everytime it gets worse. First when they opened the (smelling) garden, we thought they’re building a pretty pond. But now it’s become unbearable to even look at it.
However the thing that I still find weirdest are the fish, potato and nuts vendors that are standing there in the garbage and unbearable smell, selling their goods…and of course the people who stop and buy from there!
But yeah it’s sad to see how this project that had given us some hope is failing now too…
