The 2025 QS World University Rankings are out and the American University of Beirut has climbed several ranks up to 250th worldwide and 132nd globally in the field of medicine. AUB is also ranked first in the MENA region in the subject of medicine. This year’s ranking is the largest ever, featuring over 1,500 universities across 105 higher education systems. The United States is the most represented country or territory, with 197 ranked institutions, followed by the United Kingdom with 90 and mainland China with 71.
This ranking evaluates AUB’s performance in subject-specific research and reputation across its various faculties, schools, and disciplines. The field of Medicine includes 73 subcategories, six of which focus on health sciences and public health, which contributed to this outstanding performance.
The QS World University Rankings by Subject uses a comprehensive methodology to assess institutions, and for AUB, several key factors contribute to its strong position. Academic Reputation (40%) is the most significant factor, reflecting how AUB’s research and teaching are regarded by academics worldwide. Research Citations per Paper (20%) measures the influence of AUB’s research, indicating its impact on global medical and scientific communities.The h-index (20%) measures both the productivity and impact of AUB’s scholarly work, demonstrating its sustained contributions to the field. Employer Reputation (10%) reflects how highly AUB’s graduates are valued by employers, particularly in healthcare, highlighting the practical value of its education. Finally, the International Research Network (10%) measures the success in creating and sustaining research partnerships with institutions in other locations. Together, these factors provide a clear and accurate reflection of AUB’s standing as a leading institution in the medical field.
