Since the government decided to plant speed traps everywhere, some people have started downloading and using the Trapster application. My friend called me today telling me he was able to spot 3 of them with the Trapster.
It is very easy to use, you just download it, and post about a radar your spotted on the map, then all other users will be notified of the radar’s location.
According to nowlebanon, 3630 traffic violations were detected only on Monday. Here is a picture of the new anti-speeding radar.
How about everyone just follow the law? it seems simple really.
Considering Lebanon’s morbidity and mortality rates in traffic accidents, I’m very happy that they’re doing this. You and your friend on the other hand, like most douchebags in Lebanon think you should be above the law.
why are you trying so hard to find a way around this? You keep on talking about how Lebanon should become more civilized, yet you don’t even want to follow the simple traffic rules which are put in place for the safety of the people on the road.
No, i agree with Najib on this. Getting civilized pass by less corrupted officers and certainly a better exam to get the driving license, don’t allow some cars to be on roads (a friend of mine crashed his brand new car with an old one without brake, without assurance…).
How can we be civilized if the fine is only based on the state of your car (if you got an SUV, for the same fault you ll be taxed twice!!)
I got my license in France and that take minimum 4 month to get it, with 20 hours minimum in a driving school and more than 35/40 to the code exam (the lebanese one is a big joke!)
Moreover, 100km/h on the highway is totally absurd, some places, we can easily go without danger to 130.
To finish, I hope the money collected will be used to fix shitty roads in the country and not in the pocket of our beloved politicians (for the moment, you’ll note that the minister never communicated on a plan of what to do with this money).
You can’t get “civilized” people on roads only in putting those radars…
correcting faults
If you get*
PS:Hahahaha, the radar’s name is “multanova”=in portuguese, it’s “new fines”
PS 2 : i heard it’s a country who gave us a gift with those radar : with this picture, i’ll say brasil?
radars are better than nothing, i’m not saying that its the first step in the right order, but what is done is one of the easier options and you should not be discouraging it. 100km/h might be less that the speed used in other countries but we can all agree that lebanon’s roads are not the best or smoothest and therefore lowering speeds might actually make it safer. Hopefully other actions will be taken like making it more difficult to get a license, etc… but for now we should all follow the law
I am sorry DH but how does knowing where the traps are is disobeying the law?
I am not gonna speed until i find the trap then stop but just be more careful if its near. Douchebag is really a nasty word to use in case u dont know what it means.
No matter what the Lebanese government does it will always be accused of corruption and theft.
“Lebanese government bans smoking in public places”
*gasp* CORRUPTION. They want our to steal our money through fines!
This is so ironic, you have more than 10 posts about how bad Lebanese drivers are, then you get all pissed up about the fact that they will start punishing speeding drivers and give them fines, ironic. Theres nothing wrong with what they are doing and you should follow the rules, criticizing is always healthy but you are overusing it to a point where nothing in Lebanon seems good enough for you. If you really want Lebanon a place with safe roads, then tough luck because there will be rules to follow.
@Ralph,
Every country has its own laws. Actually the ones in Lebanon remind me a little of the ones in Canada- generally 120 is the highest you can go within the law. Lebanon is a small country with lots of cars – 100 is a enough.
Also, 50 is the law here on a normal street.
It’s actually known that people in Europe drive like crazies. So good job to Minister Ziad Baroud- he’s doing the best he can to change something and i really feel people complain both ways.
Nihna in Lebanon it’s all we are good at.
Also in the States they don’t have shops on the highway, so they can have higher speed limits since they don’t have to worry about cars stopping on the side of the road
Or how about, you know, just following the speed limit?
so the top speed is 100km/h ok ???
so don’t buy fast car just buy kia picanto or hyundai I10 !!!!
in the civilized countries, there’s is a closed track where u can speed , and see ur car capability !! here we have nothing ?
i have a bmw 330Ci , now i have to sell it and buy a bmw 320i ???
or tell the bmw company : do not import fast cars to lebanon ???
