A group calling itself ‘Raise Your Voice’ hacked on Tuesday around 15 Lebanese government websites to ask for an improvement in living standards, the day the parliament launches a three-day session to assess the cabinet’s performance. “We are RYV, short for Raise Your Voice, and we are simply a group of people who could not bear sitting in silence, watching all the crimes and injustice going on in Lebanon,†the group said. [Naharnet]
Here’s the list of all the hacked websites:

Except for the ISF website, I believe the hackers are the only people visiting those websites.
Well, I think those people mean to spread a message, not actually do some damage. So since the hack news is spreading on twitter, facebook, and blogs like this one, the message seems to be getting there. You’re right it’s not very effective in a way that it gets things done, but, everybody doing a small part can help. After all you run a blog and you should know this 🙂
A message to whom? Those websites are not visited except by the guy managing them maybe. Let the news circulate everywhere it won’t make any difference.
The only positive thing is that I am learning about new government websites I never heard of before.
Najib, it’s not about if these websites get visitors, that’s not who the hackers are trying to target. Who actually visits government websites anywhere in the world? You think the Chinese visit the government websites that were hacked last week in China? The only difference is that the Chinese government actually cares about it’s affairs in the cyber world. Doubt it’s the same with the Lebanese government.
And how much publicity do you think this is getting? From the looks of it, it’s getting pretty popular around Twitter & Facebook. So the hackers are obviously doing something right.
Patrick,
The problem is they expect the Lebanese government to start caring maybe and take care of its cyber world. What I expect is another stupid internet law and more censorship and arrests of internet activists or they will simply ignore the whole thing like they did last time.
It’s not only about making the government care, it’s also about raising awareness (which it has been doing, which I’m assuming is the main goal of this campaign).
I would hope the Lebanese government is smart enough to know Internet laws & censorship don’t effect hackers, I mean, if Chinese censorship and Internet laws can’t keep hackers at bay, how would it in Lebanon? lol Same reason why I think the Lebanese government won’t be able to arrest these hackers, I don’t think they’re that technically sophisticated.
they should hack political and media websites also so that thos hackers wont look “one sided” as typical lebanese would think
They should hack them to be taken more seriously!
who knew we had all these websites to begin with!
mr najib it wont do the job coz those websites are not visited by no one ? well look what it has done EVERYBODY knows abt it now, the purpose is to SPREAD the message in ANY way, if it wont make any difference y r u posting abt it then ? it wont make any difference right ?
I posted to say that it won’t make any difference and it won’t 🙂
Sending a message to politicians is done by NOT voting for them again and again, not by hacking their websites then voting for the same people.
hacking MIGHT be the first step who knows as long as the media is talking about it it WILL make a difference, this will lead to NOT voting for example dont u think ? the essence of it is spreading the word in one way or another not for the sake of hacking
If hacking didn’t make a difference, there would be no hackers. lol
Najib, NOTHING will ever make a difference in Lebanon actually and not only hacking won’t…
As long as the people are governed by the idea that it is ok to take sides with a political colors (yellow, red, orange, green,… we have the whole fu**ing spectrum in Lebanon) and to elect and re-elect those who are currently in the government or someone related to them OR who is part of ANY political party in Lebanon. Nothing will change as long as we are under such a totalitarian rule.
Things will change when Technocracy takes over, true technocracy that is NOT tied to a certain party, distribution, religion, etc. NOTHING else will allow for a change but alas the Lebanese people is heavily brain washed and will never wake up.. All other countries in the MENA region woke up and took action against their “hereditary totalitarian dictatorship” (which is really what we have except that we have many dictators in a way that everyone follows on of these).
What the RYV was trying to say was: WAKE UP!
