Marc Diab was originally from Ain Ebel South Lebanon before he immigrated to Canada with his family and decided to join the Canadian army. He always dreamt though of opening a restaurant next to his base in Petawawa, a town in the province of Ontario. Unfortunately, Marc was stationed in Kandahar province in 2009 when a roadside bomb exploded beside the vehicle carrying him and his fellow soldiers. Marc was killed in the explosion and became the 112th Canadian soldier to die in Afghanistan. He was only 22 and had only one month left in his first deployment to Afghanistan.

In order to honour his memory, his parents decided to open the restaurant Marc always dreamt of, and it’s been a success story ever since. Madameek has been serving clients authentic Lebanese cuisine for 14 years now and dedicates the 8th of March of every year to Marc’s memory.
