Ramco replaced Sukleen and started collecting garbage in Beirut back in May after winning a $70 million tender over a 5-year period. The company will pick up 650 tons of waste per day and has promised to place 250 underground collection points across the capital, in an attempt to reduce odor and deter pests.

These underground bins are more aesthetically appealing and more practical but I hope they’re not considering placing them near main roads or busy streets where garbage trucks have to block traffic to collect garbage. Moreover, I’m not sure if they will help the sorting process especially that there are designated bins for Recycling now as well.
