I spotted those wires on the Dbayyeh highway right after Nahr el Kalb (if you are heading towards Beirut), and before the Canadian embassy on the maritime road. I also remember seeing one of those on the Dora highway but can’t remember where.
The one in Jal el Dib is connected to a small box on an electricity pole. They can’t be just random wires because they are well fixed on the ground.
First thought that occurred to me is that they are linked to some sensor that detects the number of cars passing by but I highly doubt the concerned ministry is using such equipment.
Does anyone have a clue what are those for?
Could be the same cable connecting Tarshish to Haret Hreik?

it’s a car counter, they have these very often in saudi for calculating requirements for traffic light timings, it’ll be there for a bit then they’ll move them. The box will be the electronics.
i think so anyway. having two maybe allows them to calculate speed?

Usually it is used on side streets to see if “stop signs” or traffic lights should be installed. I guess that is all redundant in Lebanon. 😀
It is used in civilized countries (Europe, US, etc.) to monitor traffic, regulate it later on by adjusting the red/green road lights according to the flow of cars.

They still use these even in the US. There are usually two wires around 1-2 meters apart.
Traffic light synchronization? State of the art persian fiber optics? Illegal cable tv operator? High voltage line fron your local ishtirak? The latest wireless technology from mtc/alpha? Lebanon is a country of mysteries.
One thing it is not: a car counter to plan and optimize traffic. I have it fom good authority that all the ressources of our government are focused on the jeita marvel.
The same wires are in Mansourieh and new Rawda and Dekwaneh, these wires are linked to a device that calculates to the load of traffic on a certain road in order to take theses figures into consideration when they want to maintain the roads. The point is that they are obliged to put them since most of the money for Roads maintenance comes from international funding and they are obliged to prepare a case study for each road and show some significant figures to prove the cost! Sure they won’t do anything unless they are obliged in this SHITTY COUNTRY!
It’s a sensor to count the number of passing cars. A very retarded system, made in the 90s… Here in Dubai they put chips inside tarmac in the middle of lanes to count cars.
I don’t understand why we need sensors to count the number of cars at Jal El Dib high way.
An 80 years old man can count them easily specialy during the last couple of days with the traffic Jam.
