When I first heard the report and knowing how much MTV likes Gebran Bassil, I thought I’d ask my friends who live in Mansourieh first and it turned out to be true. They were getting 0 electricity hours for weeks and were living off the generators. As of last week things started to improve but the cable is not fixed yet.
Two questions I have to ask here:
1- I was told that a private company cut the cable by mistake or something like that. Why didn’t MTV do the extra effort and investigate the reason behind this delay? Why didn’t they contact the ministry or the municipality?
2- How come there’s no mention of this crisis anywhere in the news? I couldn’t find anything about it on the Minister’s Facebook Page or the EDL website as well.
On a last note and speaking of shortages, some parts of Keserwan are still without water due to the works in Sad Chabrou7. I have relatives who live there and have been buying water (Locally Not From Cyprus yet :P) for the past 2 weeks now.
Update: There’s apparently water shortage in MonteVerde as well, here’s why:

EDL issued a statement on 28-10-2013 it was also posted on Minister Bassil’s FB and Twitter account :
Rawad,
The statement dates back from October and minimal hours don’t mean 0 hours and the last sentence (even if not meant) sounds like a blackmail to the Mansourieh residents who protested against the high voltages cables.
At the orphanage I live and work at we have experienced electricity drops far below what is acceptable. If there are 24 hours in a day (fact) then we should legitimately receive more than 3-5 hours of electricity. Often when it arrives it is in the middle of the night, which keeps the fridges running but little else can be done.
It costs us $20/hr to use our generator, which has resulted in us racking up fuel bills of over $2000 a month (even more during November). This is money that should be going to educate, feed, clothe, and otherwise care for the children that live among us. Using a community generator isn’t an option as we need around 100amps, which is also quite costly. There also doesn’t seem to be a schedule for when EDL power is going to be on or off.
I fail to see how this situation hasn’t been resolved. Innocent and vulnerable children and people in Mansourieh are suffering.
If you don’t mind, I’d like to plug a Facebook post in which people can make donations through if they’d like to help us keep the lights on for the kids
