It looks like Valet Parking guys are after me these days. After my dispute with Zaatar W Zeit Kaslik’s valet, it is now Schtroumpf Achrafieh valet’s turn.
I was leaving work two days ago around 6 heading towards Jeitawi hospital in Achrafieh and decided to stop by La Cigale to buy something. I parked my car as shown in the picture, as it’s past 5 and park meter is off.
As I was stepping down from my car, the valet guy shows up asking me for my keys. I told him that’s a valid parking spot and I don’t need him to park my car. He tells me this spot is for the restaurant (Schtroumpf Achrafieh) and they paid the municipality to have it after park meter hours are done.
Having heard that, I asked him to call the restaurant’s manager, so he hesitated and was like you have to go see him yourself so I went up and asked Schtroumpf Achrafieh’s manager if the valet’s story is true.
Turns out it’s a big fat lie and they only request politely for cars not to park in the two spots in front of the restaurant. Afterwards, I asked Schtroumpf’s manager, who was very polite and apologized for the incident, to go talk to the scumbag valet they got and ask him to stop harassing people.
All in all, I am happy the manager talked to the valet instantly and I urge all the blog readers to do the same thing as I did and not just give away their cars.
my only worry with incidents like this is that they might key your car, or damage it, and then later claim they donno who did this..
it happens
I was worried about that too so I kept the car in sight while at La Cigale in case the valet wanted to try something funny.
I don’t think he would though cause he’ll probably lose his job there.
Whattttt,I wanna know no who are those valet parking guys , everyone of them ,the company , who owns the company etc,I never ever gave my keys to any valet parking, shou ekhdin el trottoir kamen????
lol @ annie, have u even been to Beirut in the last couple of years???
well done Najib
I’m really glad that you did that and that you refused to obey to Valet’s Parking Mafia Member! we all know that Valet Parking is a senseless Job, it is a waste of money for Nothing. A car driver who drives for long distance, can still drive for few additional meters and park his car himself!
instead of working in a certain industry and produce and help the economy to grow, they are working something that has no benefit for the Macro economy of the Country!
I would like to ask the permission of publishing this Post on choura2yak.com while mentioning the source for sure!
Thanks
You don’t need permission as long as you are giving credit.
The valet is a service that is sometimes helpful, the problem is the people working do not give you a choice as they are under pressure to achieve a certain budget ,legally THEY HAVE NO RIGHT to any parking (I’ve checked with the municipality )the only legal parking are the ones with signs (pharmacy , disabled ,5 star hotel) all the rest is as they call it in Lebanon “salbata” .
So you did good …
I don’t see any helpful service in Valet Parking, as long as all restaurants should have a parking space available for clients. If the parking space is not available then they should relocate to some other regions! this way we will prevents having crowd regions in Beirut and we will help the improvement in the peripheral regions!
It’s all about MACROECONOMICS Guys which we miss it’s notion in our Country! :(:S
Well done Najib. I am glad you put them in their place. When I went to Schtroumpf Ashrafiyeh this month I gave my car to the Valet parking and when I was leaving I couldnt find my car or the guy in the parking lot (and it was 90% empty). I had to call the manager’s number (on the parking ticket), wait for 10 minutes only to find my car parked outside in the parking spot (shown in ur photo). He then told me exactly the opposite of what he told you: that the parking lot is NOT for Schtroumpf, but a private company & all cars are parked outside. Crooks and scumbags.
Thank you Maria.
You should go talk to the restaurant’s manager. He was very nice and understanding and lectured the valet guy.
