If you’re wondering why internet in Lebanon has slowed down* in the past week, this is due to a rupture of two cables connecting Cyprus to Europe. The latest update I read stated that the cables were repaired but services are now back at normal levels, but it doesn’t look like it as many are still reporting slowness and disruption.
Here’s the latest from Ogero as of yesterday:
A quick update on the repairs of the marine cable between Cyprus and Alexandria: repairs are reaching their final stages. Branching is causing some disturbances affecting the quality of service. Repairs expected to end tomorrow end of day. Will keep you posted. Apologies to all.
This is the second time in five years that internet services are affected by damages cables.
*Just in case you get decent internet, not the shitty 1.7MBps I get or the 0.8Mbps my parents get.
