Joumana Haddad is Lebanese journalist, activist, poet, instructor, author and the head of the cultural pages for An Nahar newspaper, as well as the editor-in-chief of Jasad magazine, a controversial Arabic magazine specialized in the literature and arts of the body. She’s an exceptional woman that speaks seven languages and was recently ranked among the 100 Most Powerful Arab Women in 2015.
Joumana was supposed to fly to Bahrain on the 6th of April to attend a cultural event, however an online campaign (#البحرين_لا_ترحب_بالملحدين) was started against her visit and as a result, she was denied entrance because she’s an atheist and a threat to society. How is being an atheist a threat to society? Unless Joumana chops heads off and trains terrorists while pretending to write poetry, I think that’s the most pathetic thing I’ve ever heard of.
In all cases, it’s their loss as any country should be proud of having women like Joumana Haddad.
Love and support to you Joumana as always!
lol wtf
such hypocrites.
does that mean Bahrain NEVER received any atheist during the existence of the country?
being religious is one thing. being a hypocritical religious is a whole new level.
It’s obvious that the Arab brain seems to be in flux lately…I mean the past 1500 years!
Bahrain is a backwards disgrace to humanity. Let them keep on living their backwards, medieval ways. Joumana is someone who makes society progress and move forward. TFEH BAHRAIN
I’m Bahraini… am a Muslim… am also a lesbian… and I am so sorry to hear that such thing happened! This decision is offensive to almost everyone here! (talking about homosexuals, and all religions we have in our country). The funny thing is that if this is really a reason for someone to be rejected here, then Bahrain’s population will decrease, down to 75% at least. Oops! They really missed out on that point 😛
She’s beautiful , love her independent free thinking mind.
Bahrain is a disgrace, just like other Arab states that suppress freedom of expression and liberties to women.
How does Joumana become a threat to society from being an Athiest? It’s quite laughable and pathetic from the Arabs who petition against her. I mean, let’s review what the Sunni Arab States have done for society throughout the world. For a start, they are jointly responsible for recruiting, training and funding thousands of religious nuts to carry out terrorists and insurgent operations throughout the Middle East and the world. A big thank you for that – really!! (Note the sarcasm if you are too stupid not to see it with my language)
The threat to society from the millions spent in training and funding religious zealots has spilled over in Syria and Iraq in the form of ISIS, not too mention in other parts of the world as well. So once again, how does Joumana actually threaten society? I would really like to know. Oh hang on, I think I get it. They are afraid that Joumana might inspire women in Bahrain to critically think and realise they are being oppressed. Yes I think that’s it.
I would like a mention about ISIS. As far as that criminal group is concerned, they are insecure, little cowards who have to resort to cutting heads off and terrorising defenseless communities. Well done guys. Really – great effort (you low life scum bags) . Further, they market themselves as holy warriors. What is holy about chopping people’s heads off and killing indiscriminately? They are nothing but bottom feeders, or like the scum on the bottom of a toilet.
And where arethe Sunni Arab States – like Bahrain – going in to take care of the scourge that they help create? When have they ever put on a uniform and gone into fight for another nation or to be part of a coalition. They like to buy the great western hardware, but only for looks and not with any will to fight. They standby and do very little.
So when it comes to being a threat to society, is Joumana really a threat. No she is isn’t, not in a heart beat, never. The insecure, make beiief Kingdom states of Saudi Arabia, Bahrain and the UAE are responsible for more strife, terrorism, and threats to society than Joumana Haddad and her words of wisdom.
Wake up Bahrain – you are a disgrace.
Here’s the thing mate… I dun believe we should call em Arabs… Arabs is referring to a race/language/region. I think it’s more of religion we’re talking here… u see, I bet that whoever made this mess r the show offs who think they r the only ones who’ll go to heaven, and hell is for the rest of us, just cause the beliefs differ.
قمة التخلف!
