The Fnaydek municipality has issued a statement yesterday banning alcohol in the Kammou3a area and asking the municipal police to enforce this decision. This decision comes after and I quote “تفشي ظاهرة شرب الخمور في المطاعم والساحات والاماكن العامة” because as we all know, alcohol in restaurants is a new trend in Lebanon. They did not mention anything about selling alcohol in supermarkets but I guess that’s a given.

As far as I know, such decisions are illegal and some municipalities referred back to a 106-year old Ottoman law to justify them. Nevertheless, no actions are being taken by the Interior Ministry to stop these municipalities and protect the rights and freedoms of individuals living in or visiting the town.
