According to this article, free night traffic is no longer be available for Ogero DSL internet users and will be replaced by a 2Mbps unlimited plan for 75,000LL (50$).
Given that the prices were slashed by more than 80% and the quotas were multiplied by 10 times for some packages, I don’t think taking out the free night traffic will affect a lot of users specially that there’s an unlimited option now for just 50$. In fact, it might improve the internet connection between midnight and 7am as the free night traffic was killing it. What remains to be seen is how this unlimited package works and how the fair usage policy will be applied.
Moreover, a lot of areas in Lebanon still can’t get more than a 1Mbps connection, which sucks and makes the new packages useless for them.
Despite the fact that this is much needed and had to be done a long time ago, but this is step B and not step A. They should have first equipped the centrales and established the fiber optic calbes between them in order to support this “virtual” drop in price and increase in bandwidth and capacity. This is pure election campaign marketing, even though the minister is doing an effort more than others in his government.
This is how Fair Usage Policy (FUP) works,
when you are browsing and reading articles, this does not take a lot of bandwidth, so your unlimited speed will be at its best, but when you download a file, it will start fast, but will become slower, and over time if you are not downloading, the speed will go back up. If someone is a constant youtube viewer, it’s not recommended to get the unlimited plan, it will become very slow. try it, open a long youtube video, right click and select “Stats for Nerds” and watch the speed slowly go down, this is because a video takes a lot of bandwidth. Thats why i’m changing to the 8 Mbps and 100G plan next month since i don’t want to be trapped in this unlimited hole of slowness.
You either don’t live in lebanon or you only use internet for facebook.
For your information all the CO now are connected with fiber optic.
Now to talk about night traffic, only ogero users weren’t affected with the night traffic killing the connection because ogero who control it, in fact it was the private ISP struggeling with this.
This upgrade is a dumb move and now we are back to point zero.
Ramy,
What are you talking about? Fiber Optics in Jounieh too? I can’t get more than 1 Mbps at my parents house because the cables are too old even though the “Centrale” is near.
I don’t know if this is a good step or not
but before this upgrade I was subscribed to the plan of 2 mb (20gb) and with unlimited night traffic I can download about 150gb per month
now If I want to download 150 gb per month I should pay about 200$
how can this step help the internet to reach a new level?
I don’t know if the unlimited plan will help us to download as mush as we can?
did the speed will stay stable all over the day anyone try it????
I guess the cable subscription will be better then dsl?????
150gb per month ????? and i felt guilty if i downloaded 1gb every night !!!!!!
Rabjam why you feel guilty it’s free so we can download what we need
Couldn’t agree more,
i was on the 10Gb Plan, and this upgrade was useless,
if you were in a household with no youngsters around adults usually just fb and whatsapp
never spending over 3 Gb every month,
while us… the youngsters of the modern day used the unlimited nights to download up to 70 GB (>40Gb)
every month.
so upgrading the people that didn’t need the upgrade was useless, and removing unlimited nights from us
was like cutting us down to 57% not increasing us to 88%, this is all a new minister’s show off,
the way it was, it was better! let alone that almost all middle aged people (between 18 and 30 or so) use
the Alfa and touch bundles like Uchat and web and talk that didn’t change at all… these telecom
“upgrades” were nothing but empty talks….
i’m not speaking from a political standpoint, i’m actually more inclined to the minister’s political party.
but i utterly disrespect what he did to us, the ministry should be handed to someone else.
In Bsaba near baabda, internet works for 1-2 hrs per day at most. Upon calling IDM they claimed that due to the heavy construction there, there is an over subscription on the main line which leads to a weak signal… Before fixing prices and speed infrastructure must be fixed to handle the load!!
Also even before that, speeds rarely ever reached 512K…
by the way stay away from WISE.. they neglected the packages of ministry of comm and created their own packages which is way more expensive than every company provider in leb.. i had 4m25 package paying 85$ now im paying the same amount but for 80gb cap.. i should have paid 50$ less but sadly WISE are greedy s*ns of bitche$
Any idea if other ISPs such as Cyberia are still unlimited after 11?
yes kareem wise is free after midnight but their packages are more expensive than other isps
This suck so bad!
i had 4mb and still on 4mb. but now i consumed over half my quota in 1 day before I realized it is no longer free. why not provide an unlimited plan for 4mb!?
all i see this is a downgrade and lebanon is only about facebook and taking selfies!
Here’s the thing about FUP (Fair Usage Policy). I was on 2mb 20GB quota by one of the commercial ISPs.
They automatically switched me to unlimited quota, still 2mb speed.
by 25th of the month (july 2014), I had consumed 30 GB, they slowed down my connection THREE times during this month. I called them up and everytime I have an argument with their “support”. I asked them many times 30 GB is NOT “too much” download why are you slowing my connection. The reply is “you are allowed 2GB per day, anything over and above the connection automatically slows down on your account by the system. ”
I asked them : can I download 100GB with my UNLIMITED plan ? they said yes of course, I asked : but how can I do that if I am limited to 2GB per day ??????????????????????????????
I asked them : according to your FUP, what is “too much” download and what is “normal” they said we can’t say !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! HOWEVER, we recommend that you switch from an unlimited plan to a limited plan. WHERE THE FUP DOEN’T APPLY.
I figured to myself, ok, if I’m been living for the past 4 years with 2 MB on 20GB quota for 45$, I can live with 40 GB with only 16$. So I switched plans where FUP doesn’t apply.
If you do the math, on unlimited you pay 600$ per year, and they block your connection on 2GB per day cap. With the basic limited connection you pay 192$ per year and no blocking + you still get free night time if you want to watch videos 🙂
This FUP on unlimited is just plain stupid. I predict everyone will make the switch to 40GB, and the ISP ends up loosing income from 50$ per month per account down to 16$ per month per account.
Ogero claims that their unlimited plan has no fup so does it or does It not. I’m talking ogero since I know so deters does have fup.
Sodetels*
Last month i downloaded >250 gb with Ogero unlimited plan… Never did it slow down..
Salimk
No more night traffic on Ogero on all their plans…
hey guys , is the unlimited night quota still available ? (2mb/s 45gb Wise DSL)
