Lebanon lost yesterday a legendary filmmaker and one of the pioneers of Lebanese cinema, George Nasser. Nasser was the first director to put Lebanon on the map of global movie-making when his movie "Ila Ayn", which went on to become the first Lebanese film to be picked up for Cannes. Capernaum Officially Nominated For a Best Foreign Language Film Academy Award #Oscars2019

For the second year in a row, we have a Lebanese film nominated for an Oscar. This time, Nadine Labaki's Capernaum was officially nominated for an Oscar under the Best Foreign Language Film category. Labaki also made history by becoming the first female Arab filmmaker ever to be nominated for an Oscar. The winners will be announced on February 24 during the Oscars ceremony.
