Our new labor minister’s idea of tackling Lebanon’s surging unemployment rate is twofold:
– Launch an application that links the labor market with workers, which is useless and a waste of time given that the real problem now is not the recruitment process, but companies going bankrupt and the whole economy collapsing.

– Reactivate an agreement with the State of Qatar to secure job opportunities for Lebanese in Qatar. Ideally, this might work but who will filter our the applications? who is in charge of managing these opportunities and guaranteeing equal opportunities?

I don’t want to judge this new minister too quickly but his top priorities right now should be working hand in hand with the Economy & Industry Ministries to protect struggling local industries and businesses, and secure funds to boost local production & manufacturing. The last thing we need right now is some silly app and sending more skilled labor abroad.
