The "Egg" building is one of Beirut's most iconic landmarks. It was built in 1966 by Lebanese architect Joseph Philip Karam and was part of a multi-user complex including an egg-spaced shell and two high towers with spaces for leisure and offices. Earlier in December, SMEX as well as several online activists raised doubts regarding the security measures taken to protect the data being captured on the Health Ministry's MOPH Pass platform. I stumbled upon today an aerial shot of Beirut's port taken in 1929 by François Pierre-Alype, found on the National Library of France website. I dug out the website, searched for all the Beirut-related pictures on it and there are 94 of them dating from the 1800s and 1930s. The quality of these old pictures is quite amazing. Check them out! The National Library was officially reopened in 2018 after 39 years but it had to be closed once again following the damages caused by the 2020 Beirut blast.
