I passed by Samsung a week ago and picked up the new Samsung Galaxy Note3 in order to test it out. I’ve been anxiously waiting for that phone to come out as I’m using the Samsung S4 at the moment and even though it is a great phone with an amazing camera, battery life is not that good and the phone has some software issues.
The Note3 is not curved like the Note2 and looks like a bigger S4. It’s an impressive phone that boosts a huge screen (5.7 inches) screen, a 13 megapixels camera (No Night mode though), a quad core processor with 3GB RAM, and is 4G and NFC-enabled. The Note3 battery life is better than its precedents and could last you an entire day easily.
I will not bore you with further technical details so here are some of the pros and cons and my final verdict on the Note3:
Pros:
– Gorgeous full-HD screen and impressive display (Super AMOLED).
– Thin and light phone despite its size (168 g).
– Very Fast (Quad core, 2300 MHz, 3GB).
– Amazing battery life (3,200 mAh battery).
– Great camera (13 megapixels, F2.2 aperture size and Digital image stabilization)
Cons:
– New faux-leather rear is a turnoff.
– A lot of useless features making it complicated to use (just like the S4).
– Too Expensive (880$).
– The Note3 I got is powered by an Exynos processor, not the better performing Snapdragon processor.
Verdict:
All in all, The Note3 is still the phablet to beat but I think it’s way too overpriced at almost 900$. I’d rather wait till its price drops and they get the Snapdragon 800 powered processor.
It’s way too big for a phone

It’s almost cartoon sized!
since you used the iphone as a baseline and said the note is too big i give you my own arbitrary statement:
“The iphone is way too small for a phone

It’s almost cartoon sized!”
arbitrariness goes both ways.
βThe iphone is way too small for a phone”
How is it too small for a phone? The size works quite well for making calls, texting, browsing social media, gaming and watching Youtube videos. It fits nicely in one hand and fits in your pocket comfortably.
My initial post wasn’t about making this another silly Apple vs. Samsung debate.

It looks cartoon sized compared to any other “normal” sized phone.
neither was my post about apple vs. samsung, i just didn’t like that you started on the basis that the iphone is some sort of base unit for a phone (via your choice of image).
maybe it was just a random choice of image, in which case, apologies.
on a side note, if you want some sort of “smallest phone that can do the basics” there are smaller options than an iphone. many options.
The iPhone is the phone that the majority of smartphones are compared to (if people like it or not, it’s the truth), a lot of people own iPhones so using that image made the most rational sense to me.
As a personal preference, I wouldn’t go much bigger than the iPhone or much smaller. I don’t want the smallest phone, I want the phone that’s comfortable to hold and that can fit into my pocket. I can get a tablet for something larger.
I suppose I would (kind of) understand why someone would want something as large as the Note 3 though.
Patrick try the note 2 or 3 for a week… you will hate how small the iphone is when u go back… web surfing texting… everything is much more comforting especially visually. you will have trouble sending whatsapps from iphone afterwards…unless you are a tiny person. with maybe small extremities…. (hands π
HTC One is the perfect size π
That’s what I thought at first but once you get used to it, you will love it more than any other phone.
Hi Najib, just some little clarification concerning the specifications of the Note 3. There are two versions of the device, one with the Exynos Octa-core (8 cores) SoC, clocked at 1,900 MHz and doesn’t have 4g/LTE and the other one with the Snapdragon 800 Quad-core SoC, clocked at 2,300 MHz and it is 4g/LTE-enabled.
Azmi,
You are right I thought it was 4G enabled but it isn’t. Just NFC
U r right Azmi, the first one is model N9000 and the second is N9005 that supports 4G/LTE
