Interior Minister Bassam Mawlawi signed a decree earlier today inviting the electoral bodies to elect members of the Parliament on Sunday May 15th 2022. This date will be for those residing in Lebanon while expats will be voting either on Friday May 6 2022 or Sunday May 8 2022. Additionally, employees who are managing the elections will be scheduled to vote on May 12.

This goes against the wishes of the parliament to hold elections on March 27. Nevertheless, we still need the President and the Prime Minister’s signature for the elections to take place. Given that the decree has to be signed 90 days before the elections date, both have roughly a month and a half left to do so.

In all cases, there’s no reason for any party not to proceed with the elections, unless they have plans to paralyze the country even further.
